Purpose
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about purpose. What makes me feel fulfilled? What brings me joy each day?
I guess combobulating over purpose is a luxury for most people. It’s seems like the realm of those attending self improvement courses and scouring through bookshops for ‘the answer’ - yes, I’ve been there. However, these days my quest for purpose is derived from the daily worry that my clock is ticking quickly - although just how quickly nobody knows. I mean everyone’s clock is ticking but cancer - the BIG C brings with it a laser like focus on time.
So my approach to this conundrum of purpose was…
Perform a skills analysis.
Identify the pros and cons
Utilise a dual axis graph to pit cost against benefit and effort vs reward
blah blah…basically I analysed the SH*T out of it and probably lost myself a days worth of lifespan in tragicness as a result!
Next day I’m walking along Wellington’s Vivian St when I see a shop front that makes me laugh. It’s the Wellington Rubber Stamp Company and they clearly have a sense of humour. Their window is full of clever, relatable, profanity containing stamps.
I’m drawn in and it’s a true treat! My soul lifts, I’m grinning from ear to ear, I feel energised - and that’s saying something after 35 rounds of chemo!
With three beautifully detailed stamps in my hand (this may be addictive I fear) I’m off to make beautiful things.
So today I’m sharing my latest creation - hand designed wrapping paper (recyclable, a luxurious weight of 100gm, and a generous size of 900mm x 1200mm) and hand designed gift tags!
Today I have found purpose and joy!
